I moved up to Noosa almost one year ago now and in that time, I’ve had the absolute joy of photographing families in some absolutely beautiful locations, beaches, rivers, rainforests and sometimes right outside their own front door at different accomodation. During this time, I’ve photographed everything from relaxed family photo sessions to extended family photography and large family gatherings, including milestone birthday gifts, family reunions and multi-generation shoots across Noosa’s beaches, rivers and rainforest locations.

In this post, I'll show you some of the locations that work beautifully for both family and extended family photo sessions in Noosa, offering space for connection, movement and genuine moments. One of the questions I get asked the most before a session is: “Where should we do our photos?” Here are some of my recommendations!

LOCATION OPTIONS FOR FAMILY AND EXTENDED FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY NOOSA

🐕 Noosa Dog Beach

Laid-back, relaxed and full of movement — this spot is perfect for families who want natural, playful images. Kids can run, dogs can join in, and no one feels like they have to “stand still and smile.” Sunset here is magic, with soft light and plenty of space, making it great for both family and extended family sessions.

🌴 Noosa Main Beach

Iconic for a reason. Calm water, pandanus trees and that timeless holiday feel make this a beautiful option for families wanting a classic Noosa look. Early mornings or quieter times work best, especially for extended family photos where a bit of breathing room helps everyone relax.

🚣 Noosa River

Peaceful, sheltered and incredibly versatile, the river is ideal for families with younger children or grandparents. Soft light, gentle water and open sandy areas make it perfect for multi-generation family photos with a calm, connected feel.

Your holiday house, Airbnb or resort can be one of the most meaningful locations of all. These sessions capture real memories — morning light, cuddles, shared spaces and everyday moments. It’s a wonderful option for extended family gatherings, especially when everyone is staying together.

🌿 Rainforest Locations

For something a little different, rainforest sessions offer shade, rich green tones and a grounded, peaceful atmosphere. These locations work beautifully for families wanting a natural, earthy feel and are especially flattering for larger family groups.

🌅 Sunrise Beach

Open, dramatic and beautifully coastal, Sunrise Beach offers space and stunning light, particularly early or later in the day. It’s a great choice for families who love movement, connection and that slightly wild coastal energy.

✈️ Marcoola Beach

Marcoola is a quieter, open beach with gorgeous light and plenty of room for kids to explore. It’s also close to the Sunshine Coast Airport, making it a convenient option for visiting families or extended family groups wanting beautiful photos without a long drive.

It is often windy by the beach in Noosa, so a great option is the Noosa doggie beach beside the river mouth. It is a lot more sheltered here and the sunsets are also spectacular!

At Noosa Family Photography, we are happy to come to a location near your accommodation. Noosa has some amazing scenery and most accommodation options are very close to great location options for your Noosa photo session.
