Planning a family holiday is no small feat. But bringing the entire extended family together?
That is pure magic.
Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing a gorgeous extended family who traveled all the way up from Melbourne. They traded the southern chill for the golden warmth of the Sunshine Coast to celebrate a truly special milestone: Mum’s 70th birthday.
With two younger families, grandkids, and grandparents all together in one place, it was the perfect opportunity to capture generational portraits that they will cherish forever.
Here is a little peek behind the scenes of their beautiful Noosa beach photography session.

Staying and Playing at RACV Noosa Resort
The family chose the fantastic RACV Noosa Resort as their holiday base camp. If you are planning a large family trip to Noosa, this resort is an absolute dream. It features spacious accommodation, fantastic pools for the kids, and brilliant amenities that make group travel seamless.
One of the best perks of staying at RACV? The complimentary courtesy bus!
When it came time for our session, the family didn't have to worry about the logistics of driving multiple hire cars or hunting for parking. They simply hopped on the RACV courtesy bus, which dropped them off safely right by the beach. It kept everyone relaxed, on time, and ready to have fun.

A Showstopper Noosa Sunset
We timed our session perfectly for golden hour. As a Noosa family photographer, I know just how spectacular our coastal sunsets can be, but this particular evening was an absolute showstopper.
The sky painted itself in the softest shades of pastel pink, blue, and gold.
With the younger kids running along the shoreline, splashing their toes in the water, and sharing giant hugs with their grandparents, the atmosphere was filled with pure joy. Extended family sessions can sometimes feel chaotic with little ones, but that candid energy is exactly where the magic happens.
We captured a mix of classic, beautiful group portraits alongside those raw, laughing, unstructured moments that truly reflect a family's personality.

From the Beach to Hastings Street
Once the sun dipped below the horizon and we captured our final frames, the family’s celebration didn't stop there.
The RACV courtesy bus whisked them off to Hastings Street, the vibrant heart of Noosa's dining scene. They wrapped up Mum's landmark 70th birthday with a beautiful dinner at one of Hastings Street's world-class restaurants—the perfect end to an unforgettable day.

Capture Your Own Noosa Holiday Memories
Holidaying with your extended family is a rare and beautiful occasion. Children grow up in the blink of an eye, and having professional photos with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all together in one frame is a priceless investment.
Whether you are celebrating a milestone birthday like this lovely family, or simply enjoying a long-overdue reunion in paradise, let's document it for you with a Noosa extended family photography session.

1. How far in advance should we book a session with Noosa Family Photography?
I highly recommend booking 4 to 6 weeks in advance, especially if you are visiting from Melbourne or other interstate locations during school holidays. Golden hour sunset spots fill up quickly, and booking early ensures you secure your preferred date. However, I always leave a few flexible spots open in my calendar each week for last-minute holiday bookings—so if you’ve just arrived in Noosa, reach out and I’ll do my best to squeeze you in!
2. What happens if it rains on the day of our session?
Noosa weather is generally beautiful, but I always keep a close eye on the forecast. If it rains, I will first try to adjust the time slightly on the day or move the session to an undercover location. If the weather is completely uncooperative, Noosa Family Photography will reschedule you to the next available slot during your holiday. 3. What should a large extended family wear for beach photos?
The golden rule is to coordinate, not strictly match. For my beach sessions, soft neutral tones, pastel blues, creams, whites, and light linens look incredible against the sunset. Avoid heavy patterns, and choose a color palette of 3–4 complementary tones that the whole family can pull from. 4. My grandkids are young and full of energy. How do you handle chaotic sessions?
Chaotic energy is actually my favourite! I don't expect young children to sit perfectly still and smile for an hour. The approach at Noosa Family Photography mixes relaxed group portraits with plenty of candid play, chasing waves, and games. This keeps the kids happy and results in those authentic, joyful expressions. 5. Can you accommodate grandparents or family members with mobility restrictions?
Absolutely. I carefully select beach locations that offer easy access with minimal walking from the drop-off zones. If you are using resort transport like the RACV courtesy bus, I will coordinate the exact drop-off spot to ensure the session is comfortable, relaxed, and accessible for everyone.
